Starry Night This Week

Each week most PBS stations air "Jack Horkheimer: Star Gazer", the world's first and only weekly TV series on naked-eye astronomy. The Starry Night images on this page illustrate the show for the week of Monday August 30th, 2010. You can view the complete show script, or download an iTunes/iPod video of the show.

Celebrate Labor Day The Cosmic Way
With A Giant Triangle Of Stars Overhead

Observers at mid-northern latitudes can see the Summer Triangle directly overhead in early September, once it gets dark (around 9-10 pm). Vega, Deneb, and Altair will be the three brightest stars overhead, so you can't miss them. If you have a viewing location away from city lights, see if you can spot the Milky Way passing through the triangle!
