Starry Night This Week

Each week most PBS stations air "Jack Horkheimer: Star Gazer", the world's first and only weekly TV series on naked-eye astronomy. The Starry Night images on this page illustrate the show for the week of Monday April 21, 2008. You can view the complete show script, or watch a RealPlayer video of the show.

The Naked Truth About the North Star

From midnorthern latitudes late on April evenings, look high in the north to find the Big Dipper. The pointer stars will take you to Polaris, which is about as bright as the rest of the Big Dipper's stars. (The rest of the Little Dipper's stars are much fainter; Polaris might be the only one you can see in that group.)
