Starry Night This Week
Each week most PBS stations air "Jack
Horkheimer: Star Gazer", the world's first and only weekly TV series
on naked-eye astronomy. The Starry Night images on this page illustrate
the show for the week of Monday July 29, 2002. You can
view the complete show script, or watch
a RealPlayer video of the show.
How To Get Started In Astronomy And The Two Comets That Never Were
M6 is a large and bright open cluster of 6th and 10th magnitude stars readily visible to the naked eye as a faint fuzzy. M6 contains many bright stars and in binoculars forms a lovely pair with nearby open cluster M7. M7 itself consists of a group of about 80 loosely concentrated stars. In binoculars M6 and M7 resemble a pair of sparkling jewels imbedded in the fainter star studded Milky Way background. Both of these amazing clusters are best seen at lower power.
