The Regal and Magnificent Stars Which Make The Heart and Tail Of Leo The Lion

Denebola and Regulus are the brightest stars in Leo, the most prominent constellation in the western sky in early summer.

A closeup look at the lion, showing two more bright stars, Algieba and Zosma.

Denebola is 5 times farther from Earth than Sirius, while Regulus is twice as far as Denebola. Were all 3 stars at the same distance, Regulus would be the brightest by far, while Sirius and Denebola would tie for second place.
