The moon is at its largest on the nights of February 7th and 8th because it is close to Earth, at only 222 thousand miles away.
Betelgeuse is the large red star marking Orion’s shoulder, which is prominent in the sky on Valentine’s Day.
The red colour of Betelgeuse contrasts with the bright blue tinge of the three stars in Orion’s belt.
