On December 29, Venus and a crescent moon lie very close together-close enough to be seen together through a pair of binoculars. Look to the southwest after dark to see this pair.
Venus is just over half lit up through the month of December, making it look like a tiny first quarter moon through a telescope.
On the same night that the moon and Venus huddle close together, Jupiter and Saturn shine brightly in the east. The three bright stars in Orion’s belt point up towards the giant planets.
