The Eclipse of The Sun On Christmas Day and How To View It Safely

The Christmas day eclipse is only a partial eclipse because the center of the moon’s shadow (shown here with a green circle) never falls across the Earth’s surface. Click here to watch a movie showing the motion of the moon’s shadow.

The farther North you are, the larger the chunk of Sun that will be covered at the eclipse’s peak. From Miami, only a thin sliver is covered.

From Montreal, over half of the sun is covered at the peak of the eclipse.
