The Holiday Star Gets Higher and Brighter! And Using The Moon To Find The 2 Largest Planets

Jupiter, Saturn and the moon lie almost in a straight line after sunset on Dec.8.

The next night, the moon has moved between Jupiter and Saturn. The moon moves quite fast. Click here to see a movie of the Moon’s motion past Jupiter and Saturn.

A week later (Dec.15), the moon is long gone and the brightness of Saturn and Jupiter is at its greatest. Also visible are the red giant Aldebaran and the Pleiades star cluster.
