The Milky Way At Its Very Best In Early Evening October Skie

Just after sunset, the Big Dipper, Little Dipper and Cassiopeia can be seen in the northern sky. The grey outline which embeds the “W” of Cassiopeia is the Milky Way.

Looking higher up in the sky towards the zenith, we find that two of the three bright stars in the Summer Triangle, Deneb and Altair are also in the Milky Way.

Finally, the band of the Milky Way continues south, encompassing much of Scorpius and Sagittarius.

A closer look reveals that the grey background of the Milky Way is actually the combined light of billions of stars.
