"There are few experiences as invigorating as being out in the countryside standing under a canopy of star on a still night. Starry Night conveys that feeling better than any other desktop planetarium"
--New York Times

StarGazer
Each week most PBS stations air Star Gazer with Jack Horkheimer, the world's first and only weekly TV series on naked-eye astronomy. The images on this page illustrate the show for the week of Monday, August 14, 2000.

Using The Moon To Find Four Planets In Late Summer Skies

Jupiter, Saturn and the moon are almost in a straight line in the eastern sky on the morning of August 22. The bright star Aldebaran has just come above the horizon.

The moon moves between Jupiter and Aldebaran on the morning of August 23. At 1 am, the 3 objects make a triangle, while by 7 am, they are arranged on a straight line.

Early risers can watch the moon move from Jupiter to Mars the week of August 23-28. On August 23 it is just beside Jupiter, and by August 28 it has fallen below Mars.
